A Pro or Con?

This is a piece of Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem.

NATURE

A subtle chain of countless rings

The next unto the farthest brings;

The eye reads omens where it goes,

And speaks all languages the rose;

And, striving to be man, the worm

Mounts through all the spires of form.

This poem symbolizes how everything in nature is intertwined. Nature is international and surrounds us from every angle. We should enjoy an original relation to the universe and do our best to keep in tact with nature. Nature is trustworthy and strives even when other things don't. Changes keep occurring in the world, there are new men, new lands, new thoughts, but the sun rises everyday on its own.

Being in the 21st century, we take nature for granted. Ever since technology started taking over people have forgotten about the natural part of the world. Not just the visual of nature but the nature of doing things for ourselves, of walking instead of driving or hand washing instead of washing machines. Teenagers are effected most by technology, new gadgets are introduced daily and teens can't seem to live without them. Sure things are faster and easier, but is this more of a pro or con?

  1. I guess it matters what type of person you are. To some people the computer is the greatest thing to happen to man kind! I scertainly don't think I can live without it. I was raised with it. Look at this class for example. We use the computer for homework, to blog. There are others that think nature should be praised because we use it every day. We use the sun to get energy and water to drink. It's true that most people dont apreciate it as much as they should. I care a lot about the planet. If we don't take care of it then we can lose it forever! and loose ourselves aswell.

  2. I think technology is both pro and con because it has many positive as well as negative aspects. The boundaries of technology grow every day, even at the cost of danger to nature and humanity. Without technology, no war would be as bloody as it is, nor would nations imperialize as much. Also, more people would learn to think for themselves instead of depending on technological innovations. Humans wouldn't be as brainwashed as they are now. However, without technology, the minds of many geniuses might have not been put to use, nor would people be capable of doing as many wonderful things as they can with technology. I think that technology is generally a pro, however many humans make it a con by abusing its original purpose. I believe in a balance of the world between good use of technology and appreciation, as well as compassion for nature.
